The leaning Tower of Pisa began construction in 1172 and approximately 199 years later was completed. St. Peter’s Basilica was constructed in 144 years while St. Basil’s Cathedral took 123 years. The Taj Mahal was constructed in 21 years while The White House was finally completed 13 years after it began construction.
There is a plant in Mexico called the Agave franzosinii and its nickname is the century plant. It is believed it takes one hundred years for it to bloom. There are a few other plants as well that only bloom once at certain stages of their lifespan usually after 30 plus years. Great works of art also take time but more importantly energy and patience over that time. The Mona Lisa was painted over a four years span and the Sistine Chapel ceiling also took 4 years to complete.
Warren Buffett stated, “No matter how great the talents or efforts, some things just take time. You can’t produce a baby in a month by getting nine women pregnant.”
When we truly want what is great we must not only put the full effort that is involved but we must also realize that there is time we must wait and be patient. We cannot be fooled by the face-paced instant gratification that comes with living in the 21st century. It is during the patience that we must do as a farmer would do; watch your crop and believe in all the efforts that went into sowing!
We must learn to wait and sow!
