Drinking some tea last night and read a simple 3 word passage.
Compassion Creates Understanding.
Simple – Interesting – True
Stephen Covey once wrote in his book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,
”If you are like most people, you probably seek first to be understood; you want to get your point across.”
It is one of those natural human tendencies. We speak from our center; from how we see and how we feel at any moment in time.
He continues by stating, “People listen with the intent to reply, not to understand.”
How then can we truly understand another if our intent is to reply and then share our own experiences, the doorway is compassion. I’m the first to admit I don’t listen often from a place of compassion. Yet it is only in that place that we can truly understand another. And once we understand another, then and only then can we help another, and be understood.
