During a conversation about fear; a friend of mine brought up ego.
Our internal hype man that brings the attention to us along with protects our feelings.
Ray Dalio, Time 100 list of the 100 Most Influential people once said,
“I believe that the biggest problem that humanity faces is an ego sensitivity to finding out whether one is right or wrong and identifying what one’s strengths and weakness are.”
It is really difficult to grow or positively change if our hype man is clouding our judgement of where we stand.
Instead of receiving information without judgement or comparison our ego; consumed with the idea that our personal fears will be reveled, interjects with a self-centered response of perfection. The opportunity to grow and become a better you is lost.
If we are honest with ourselves, we would acknowledge we aren’t perfect and believe it. State to ourselves that is okay and I can become better. Show vulnerability with others. Release the need for status, credit, recognition, or supremacy; and noticed how much closer we are to loving ourselves. Our ego is our own fear again limiting our ability to be everything we can.
In the words of Harry S. Truman,
“It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets credit”
