In the meantime, cling tooth and nail to the following rule: not to give in to adversity, not to trust prosperity, and always take full note of fortune’s habit of behaving just as she pleases. -Seneca
I’m running a 3 mile out and back track. Specifically running to accomplish a personal best on my 1 mile time. I run smoother after a warm up. The plan; run the first 1.5 miles to warm up, then turn around and pick up the pace. At the 2 mile mark, .5 from the turnaround, take the pace up and beat the 7:13 mile personal best.
As I’m running this last mile I notice some possible obstacles, I’m running an amazing trail parallel a busy street. Cars are coming out of intersections and lights can easily switch to red. In the middle of my personal best attempt; I’m planning on failing. I’m preparing for none of it to work.
You see I’m not planning on failing the record; I’m embracing there are obstacles. When they appear having another option keeps on path with the goal. Keeps me from not stopping. Only when we stop do we fail not when we detour. A don’t walk sign becomes the signal to turn left and create the new path.
Too often accomplishments slip from our view because of not knowing what to do next, how to respond, or not preparing for failure. Failure isn’t defeat; we will all fail, many times. The moment you accept the failure and turn around becomes the defeat. Defeat is a choice.
On Ellen Rhonda Rousey said, “I really do believe I’m still undefeated because being defeated is a choice, everybody has losses in their life but I choose to always be undefeated.”
