I was watching the Sylvester Stallone classic yesterday, Rambo. Colonel Troutman mention that Rambo prevailed over all others because of Attrition.
Attrition: The action or process of gradually reducing the strength or effectiveness of someone or something through sustained attack or pressure. (Google)
Immediately I thought, there are many quotes and saying that speak directly about having a goal to drive you, however; focusing only on your actions and being relentless with them.
I recalled a sportscaster describing Usain Bolt’s actions, “An inescapable eternity of repetition.”
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
I pictured the image of a boa constrictor smothering its prey. Every time the prey exhaled the boa squeezed just a little tighter.
Yet we pull away from our actions and behaviors. Our focus becomes only the result, and in doing so, we no longer perform deliberate effective actions. We are no longer relentless. When then expect and feel entitled to eat an elephant whole.
We can’t. We Quit. We call it impossible.
We must be relentless with what we do each moment and each action. Grind and fight, beat your goals and fears through attrition. Sustain a constant attack. Continue to apply pressure.
